Three Ottawa firefighters avoided injury after the ceiling of a burning home collapsed over them on Thursday.
Ottawa Fire Services said the ceiling collapse occurred just before 5 p.m., a little more than two hours after a 9-1-1 call from a resident reported flames coming from the roof of the single-family home in the 300 block of River Road in the city’s south end.

All three firefighters were able to exit the home on their own and, after confirmation from paramedics that they were not injured, continued to fight the blaze.
Only one resident was home at the time of the fire, and that person was able to safely evacuate along with the family pets, Ottawa Fire Services reported.
No injuries were reported.
An investigator was assigned to determine the cause of the blaze, which had fire crews still at the scene into Thursday evening. The flames had spread throughout the inside of the walls, floors and attic.
The house is located in an area of the city without hydrants, so firefighters used tanker trucks to shuttle water to the scene from a nearby water source.
