Oxfordshire open art competition back for third year

Now in its third year, The Oxfordshire Museum’s competition is seeking to showcase the county’s finest creative minds.
Run by Oxfordshire County Council, it is free to enter and open to any Oxfordshire resident aged 11 or older.
The theme for this year’s competition is animals and there will also be a young artist’s award, for 11 to 18-year-olds, for the first time.
Hannah Farncombe won the 2023 competition with her portrait, Louis (Image: Oxfordshire County Council) Councillor Neil Fawcett, the county council’s cabinet member for community and corporate services, said: “We know that Oxfordshire is full of creativity, and we want to show it off.
“This competition is an opportunity for everybody and anybody to share their talents.
“Animals are all around us in Oxfordshire at home, at work, and in the wild, and with climate change, innovation, and development, the face of our animal companions is ever changing.
“We hope this year’s theme will provide inspiration for a range of responses and produce another moving and enjoyable exhibition showcasing our residents’ talents.”
The museum is particularly keen to encourage three-dimensional entries, including sculptures.
Submissions can be made online from February 1.
Prizes will be judged by a panel of special guest judges, with the winners announced at a preview party.
An exhibition of the shortlisted entries and winners will be open to the public at the museum from September 27 until November 2.
