A youth-focused March Break community block party at the Sandwich Teen Action Group in West Windsor on Thursday served up sports, fun and snacks, as well as inspiring speeches and even free haircuts.

Hosted by the Canadian Mental Health Association and a long list of partners, hundreds participated in the day’s events, aimed in part at strengthening neighbourhoods through connecting families with community services.

The day-long activities began with some morning stretches to loosen up participants, and were designed to foster community connections via activities and presentations, including inspirational talks from motivational speakers and the Windsor Police Service’s ‘guns and gangs team.’ Another aim was opening up young minds to life opportunities.

Transportation was provided free of charge, and there were snacks and food and gift card donations. Many of the participants ended the day looking sharper than ever after a number of barbers donated free haircuts for the event.
